Spring’s Emotional Rollercoaster: Why This Season Feels So Intense

Spring can be a strange season. The longer days and warmer weather often bring a sense of renewal—more energy, more motivation, and more opportunities to connect. For many of us, it feels like the real start of the year, a fresh cycle of growth and possibility.

But at the same time, after a long winter, you might feel completely drained. Historically, spring was known as "the starving season" because food reserves would be running low. These days, we may not be short on food, but we are often running on empty in other ways—physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Life’s demands don’t slow down just because the seasons change. In fact, they often ramp up. If you’ve been juggling work, caregiving, or personal challenges, the pressure to do more in spring can feel overwhelming. The desire for change can highlight everything that isn’t working, leading to frustration or self-criticism. The excitement of new possibilities can mix with anxiety and impatience.

These emotions—excitement, frustration, even anger—carry a lot of energy, but they can also leave us feeling ungrounded. Instead of pushing through, what if you took a moment to notice how spring is affecting you? What emotions are surfacing? What do you need right now to feel steady as you move into this new season?

However spring is showing up for you, know that you’re not alone in it.
